Goju Ryu and Shotokan are both parts of a whole “path” or “entity” called karate, and they technically cannot be better or worse than the other one, however, most of the time, Goju Ryu is viewed as the more practical, powerful and useful one in real-life situations.
At Impact Martial Arts Newmarket, under the guise of Shihon Mohsen, we teach Goju Ryu from fundamentals to advanced levels of the martial art.
Karate is a form of martial arts brought to the west from Okinawa, Japan. The meaning of the word karate in Japanese is "empty hand". In our karate classes students learn not only the physical skills required by martial arts, but also valuable lessons in leadership, humility, and perseverance.
Karate is not unlike kickboxing in the fact that it uses both hands and feet as points of contact, however, the practice of karate focuses heavily on form, and knowledge of historical use of techniques. This aspect of karate is exemplified through performance, or kata.
When you walk in during one of our karate classes, you can expect to see students practising various forms of kicks, punches, and self defence drills.
Our dojo offers three levels of classes for karate:
Youth 14-
Teen 14-18
Adult 18+
